Flax Crop Report – 11 July  2016

The pulling operations are going well thanks to favorable weather conditions and should be finished at the end of the week.

Many flax straws laid down before the flowering and those straws may result more heterogeneous in color, strength,… and generally speaking, the quality of the new crop should be medium.

We should wait the retting process to know the yield (forecasted between 7T and 7.5T/ha) but we expect an equal share between the good, medium and lower quality. We should get more short fibers.

Belgium :

The pulling operations should be also finished at the end of the week. The quality of the  new crop should be more homogeneous because there were less straws laid down.

Belarus :

~ 50 000 ha have been sowed and we expect 4T/ha straw which means 60 000 T fiber (more than 2015 crop).

It‘s clear that Belarus will have bad crop in south and west region and south of Minsk region (~ 30% of crop), flax is 40-60 cm there. 70% represents average quality, i.e. 70-100cm.

Pulling is finished in south, and just starting in the rest of BY.
